‘Vera’ Rug
90 × 240 × 90 cm
Carpathian Wool
The rug VERA is designed by Maja Johansson Starander. Growing up influenced by her grandparents home filled with art, Scandinavian Röllakan wallhangings, British wallpapers and craft and textiles from her grandmothers childhood in Ethiopia layed the foundation for a style both Scandinavian and global. Between 2013-2019 Maja designed rugs and collections for Kasthall and world wide market in both tufted and woven qualities. Since 2020 Maja is working from her own studio to explore weaving and making further. The creative process of designing the rug VERA was sketching in watercolour with blocks of lines and objects inspired by light through a window creating shadows in a room, tactile memories and a mix of stillness and movement. The result was a modern woven rug in rödlakan technique. VERA is woven in shades of green, turquoise, grey, brown and vanilla.
Vandra Rugs was founded in 2005 by Cia Attling, Larissa Bodén and Marie Wallenberg Olsson. With a background in marketing and finance, and an interest in art and architecture, the three women share a passion for craftsmanship and contemporary design. Tapping into traditional Swedish weaving techniques, Vandra Rugs creates a variety of styles that combine design and handicraft knowledge. All rugs are woven by hand either with a rag-rug technique or from yarn exclusively using the highest quality natural materials including cotton, wool-felt, wool-yarn and linen.
